The State Archives attaches much importance to international standardisation because it improves the quality of information management and interoperability.
Standards about archival description
The International Council on Archives (ICA) has developed a number of international standards with regard to archival description. The representation of archives as process-related information indeed requires a different approach than the appraisal of library documents. These standards not only determine the description of archives but also of their (institutional and functional) context:
- ISAD(G): General International Standard Archival Description
- ISAAR (CPF): International Standard Archival Authority Record for Corporate Bodies, Persons and Families
- ISDF: International Standard for Describing Functions
Standards about information and document management
The International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) has developed a number of standards related to information and document management, among others with regard to metadata, migration, document management systems, etc.
