Content

Since 1 October 2012, the Bibliography of the History of Belgium (Bibliografie van de Geschiedenis van België - Bibliographie de l’Histoire de Belgique (BGB-BHB)) is compiled at the State Archives and comprises a wide selection of titles of Belgian and foreign books and articles about the history of Belgium.

It is the continuation of the bibliography published since many years in Revue belge de Philologie et d’Histoire / Belgisch Tijdschrift voor Filologie en Geschiedenis (RBPH/BTFG) that was authored until 2008 by a group of volunteers under the direction of Prof. Dr. Romain Van Eenoo.

The aim of the Bibliography of the History of Belgium is to provide an exhaustive research tool and reference work for research about the history of Belgium. It is intended not only for academics in history but also for a multitude of amateur historians and other people interested in the history of our country. Works on Belgium since its creation and on the sovereign territories prior to 1830 as well as on the former Belgian colonies (Congo and Ruanda-Urundi) are taken into account, provided the content of the publication is directly related to Belgium. All aspects of the history of Belgium, from the Roman period until today are taken into consideration for the Bibliography.

The title descriptions are mainly based on research in library catalogues in Belgium and abroad, the Belgische Bibliografie – Bibliographie de Belgique as well as lists of academic publications in Belgium and abroad. Articles on the history of Belgium published in books and magazines are also taken into account, just as bibliographies, monographs , series, reference works, exposition catalogues and reports of colloquia.

A print version of each volume is published in Revue belge de Philologie et d’Histoire / Belgisch Tijdschrift voor Filologie en Geschiedenis. Furthermore, all volumes of the Bibliography of the History of Belgium (1953-2008) can be consulted, searched and downloaded as PDF files on the website of the journal.

Also, all title descriptions since volume 2009 are fed to the electronic data base Vubis of the National Archives. Consultation is free of charge.
