| Rue de Ruysbreock soon an esplanade |
On May 5th, extensive works have started in the rue de Ruysbroeck and the adjacent rue de la Paille. These works are part of the global works to rearrange this part of the city centre. The scheduled end of the works is on August 29th 2008; however, the works at the rue de Ruysbroeck and a portion of the rue de la Paille will be finished already at the end of the month of July. A large part of the rue de Ruysbroeck will then have been transformed into an esplanade with a double row of trees and some more plantings. This esplanade will stretch from before the newer building of the National Archives to the visitors’ entrance. Consequently, the portion of the rue de Ruysbroeck located in front of the school and across from the National Archives will be narrowed and traffic will be prohibited there. The paving will be renewed, new pavements will be created… and almost all of the parking lots will disappear. At the crossing between the rue de Ruysbroeck and the rue de la Paille, a small roundabout with some adequate vegetation will be built. The circulating traffic thereby created will oblige drivers to return in the same direction from where they came. The National Archives remain accessible despite the hindrance that the works currently cause to visitors and employees. Please follow the indications on site. We have been assured that our parking space and garage will remain accessible for deliveries. |
