Exhibitions

The State Archives regularly organise exhibitions that are open to a wide public. The Archives Générales du Royaume (National Archives of Belgium) in Brussels are the venue for most exhibitions. Large-scale exhibitions are held in a purpose-built area situated at Rue de Ruysbroeck n° 6, while the foyer is able to accommodate smaller events.

The themes are generally linked to historical events that have been highlighted by current developments. The celebration of the 175ème anniversary of the creation of Belgium and, more recently, the 50th anniversary of the signature of the Treaties of Rome are only two examples. Other exhibitions, such as that devoted to the Belgian Red Cross, which was staged following the transfer of its archives, provide an opportunity to display collections that are both fascinating, diverse and showcase archive documents, interviews, films and unique exhibits from private collections.

Smaller exhibitions are also held in the archives depositories in the provinces. They are often organised within the framework of heritage days.
